Young Ganga is sold to a brothel in Mumbai in the garb of becoming an actor by her lover in the 1950s. She goes on to become the feared Gangubai – the Matriarch of Kamathipura – the champion of female emancipation and advocate of rights for sex workers in a chauvinist and narrow-minded society. LK21
